Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs 2009

Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs 2009

95+ points Wine Advocate: “The 2009 Volnay Clos Des Ducs is the only wine in this lineup that is playing its cards close to the vest. Weightless yet powerful, the Clos des Ducs impresses for its striking balance and poise. There is so much going on in the glass its hard to know where to start. Floral notes meld into hints of licorice, sweet red cherries and mint in this crystalline, totally gorgeous Volnay. Today the tannins are impossibly firm, so readers will have to be patient. This is far from an easygoing 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. “

Domaine Marquis d`Angerville consists of 13.5 hectares of vineyards, including holdings in eight of the top Volnay premier crus. The domaine has been in the d’Angerville family for over 200 years, having been bought in 1805 by the then governor of Autun. In the 1920s, the Marquis d`Angerville was one of Burgundy's true pioneers - he fought corruption and indifference to quality, which at the time was rife amongst Beaune merchants, and was one of the first producers to initiate estate bottling. Jacques d`Angerville took over the reins in 1952 and has over the years steadily refined the practices both in the vineyard and in the cuverie. Today the wines are exceptionally good due to low yields and a high average vine age. These are remarkably long-lived and some of the most sought-after wines in the Cote d'Or.
